Why Beehive NW?

The Beehive NW was created as an answer to parents' needs for a safe fun space for kids with flexibility in planning. As local parents we found the afterschool and camp registration process daunting. Things seemed to fill up so quickly and there was little flexibility for unique schedules. At the Beehive we work with each individual family to fit their needs as best we can. Our programs are student led and give students autonomy over their own day by offering multiple choices to meet multiple needs.

We are a small female led business with a passion for our community and outdoor spaces.  All of our instructors are fingerprinted and CPR/First Aid certified.  We are registered with the Oregon Department of Early Childhood Education.

Meet The Instructors

Lesley Marshall

Lesley has an extensive background in children's camps.  She spent many years working with the Pre-School and Kindergarten at Catlin Gabel school.  After that she realized her passion was for the outdoors and spent the next 8 years at Trackers Earth.  There she honed her skills in camp education and management.  In her down time she loves to climb, kayak and crochet!

Christian Bringelson

Christian brings his big personality and positivity to everything he does.  While his background with children is in a daycare setting, his passion for archery and pokemon has made him a favorite amongst students!  He continues to take classes and grow his knowledge of grade school aged campers.

Shelby Lynn

Shelby has been teaching about the unique ecology of the Pacific Northwest since 2005. Their passion for habitat restoration, permaculture principles, and collective liberation fuels a teaching style that is both engaging and transformative. Drawing on experience from institutions such as the Sitka Center for Arts & Ecology and community-led organizations like Rosehip Collective, Shelby guides children to see the land through an ecological lens—shifting focus from a human-centric perspective to a broader, more interconnected worldview.

Cam Christensen

Hello! My name is Cameron and I am so excited to be a part of the Beehive. I was born and raised in Portland, and I have been an educator for many years- both inside and outside of the public school system. I specialize in providing individualized care for students all across the spectrum while supporting an inclusive, safe container for expression, exploration, and learning. Outside of childcare, I am deeply passionate about land stewardship and natural building practices.

I am both honored and humbled to be trusted with your little ones, and looking forward to meeting you!
